Handmade Clay Pot

Introduction

Gajraj Singh has lost several of its unique arts and crafts while there are few such artistic traditions which have been vanishing fast.The revival of these arts due to lack of demand of its produce   looks now a distant dream.Pottery is one of such arts, which was once very popular in India. The artists involved with this art are called Kral (Potters).However the tradition of using pottery items collapsed soon when varieties of machine made pots of metal and crockery reached the corners of the valley.Clay pottery in India is considered as one of the most iconic elements of Indian regional art. Not just its history, but its intense beauty  have made clay pots, a modern form of Indian decor. It is the evidence of India dates back to Indus Valley Civilization. Clay pots are  famous in most of the Asian countries and gradually is spreading all over the world. History says that India is responsible for pottery art. In fact, there was a time when it was taken as the main source of income.

 

It takes you back memory lane to taste the finest curries prepared by your grandmother mother in these clay pots. The golden hands which once chiselled marvels of soil have been neglected. These craftsmen have been deceived by their own ancestral art.

Steps are required to be taken to identify the people who are still associated with this art. The new markets for their produce may be explored so that this dying art gets a new birth.Bhoomitattva foundation  who is involved in the anti polythene drive in the cities and towns  helping  this community in revival of this art by encouraging the consumers to opt for the clay objects. As the objects made of clay are more environment friendly as compared to the other objects.
